Please refer to our Available page for dogs looking that are looking for families.

Message from the director - 01/06/2012  - Welcome to the new year.  We are very pleased with our placement numbers from last year.  We successfully placed 89 (54 Pomeranians) rescues in great homes, and were able to assist 8 families in being able to keep their pets through some tough circumstances.  Additionally 4 of our placements were dogs with significant medical expenses.  The mass rescue from August was a huge effort, heart wrenching and rewarding in seeing these wonderful dogs go to great homes.  Our activities of 2011, by far, surpassed our goals for the year of 60 placements and 4 assistances.

Your donations are what allows us to continue these activities.  In today's economical environment that can be very difficult, but it is even more important.  We are totally donation funded so these continuing efforts need your assistance.  Every single dollar does make a difference.

In 2011 we successfully placed 89 rescues and
did 8 family assistance efforts.
Most are represented below

Rocky
Rocky is a great success story.  He came to us with a broken leg that was several weeks old.

Our first placements from our August 2011 Mass Surrender

-Jackson-
I don't technically count Jackson as our placement, but we did play a role.  He was pulled from a California Shelter and went into a foster home while he recovered from kennel cough before traveling to us.  While he was in foster Carol found a great home for him, so I have placed him here as one of our "Happy Tails".

-Jacks & Topper-
Jacks and Topper have gone to a wonderful home in Canada.
Their new owner came all the way to Portland to take home Jacks and decided to take home Topper as well.
They will do wonderfully with this loving and caring Canadian family.

-Shelby-
Shelby was pulled from a Calif shelter the day she was scheduled to be put down.  She is one of the sweetest Chi's that I have met.
She is now able to give all the love and kisses she wants as she is best buddy to a wonderful new mom.

Aires is a cool guy, he arrived here on 07/08/2011 and is now in a wonderful home with two children who will give him lost of love and attention.

The Life of a much loved friend!!

-Honey-
Honey is one of those "Oh My Gosh" cute girls that you don't see often in rescue.  She is a sweet loving girl who's favorite position is on her back having her belly rubbed.  She is now in a wonderful home where she will be getting all the belly rubs that she could ever want.

-Clair-
Clair arrived on 05/26/2011 from a shelter where she was scheduled for euthanasia.  She is a sweet love of a girl who found a perfect fit.

-Gwyn-
Gwyn arrived on 04/24/2011 with her puppies Reggie and Ronnie, after being found in a garbage dumpster.
Gwyn is now living and being loved by a wonderful family with a new best friend, Hannah.

"We are so loving our Gwyn. She is the best! She is the snuggler and full of love. She is the best dog we I have ever had.  She is the best. I got her a 10 time pass at an indoor dog park close to home and she loves it. She loves the big dogs! Thanks to your Dobie!  Lisa and Hannah!"

-Finn-
Finn arrived on 04/26/2011 after having been found abandoned and starving.
He is a sweet boy who has found a wonderful home as a service dog.

Buster came to OHS when his elderly owner became ill and was no longer able to care for him.  We brought him here so he could enjoy the family home he is so used to.  He loves to have his belly scratched and will sit up on his hind legs to get that attention and if you sing at a high pitch he will howl and sing along with you.  Buster will live out the remainder of his life with the love and comfort that he so truly disserves.

-LuLu-

"The connection with LuLu was instantaneous.
To me it appeared to be a match made in heaven."

Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character; and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man.
